10:00 am to 3:45 pm

Overcoming Anxiety

Do you experience worry, stress, or anxiety in your life? Learn how to build the inner strength to deal with these unpleasant feelings and create the stability within to live in the moment. Even while doing things we like, our mind is rarely in the present. We are constantly planning for the future, worrying about what happened in the past or what might happen next. We will learn to create mental space and gain control over thoughts that cause us mental discomfort. We will develop special ways of thinking that naturally increase self-confidence and inner peace. These positive habits of mind oppose the tendency of negative thinking and improve our capacity to find happiness within ourselves.

Build Self-Confidence

Saturday, November 11 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm

Build Self-Confidence

Self-confidence is an essential ingredient if we are to accomplish our goals. Both in daily life and especially in our spiritual life, lacking confidence can create obstacles to our progress. In Buddha’s teachings we find a method to develop self-confidence that does not depend on comparing our self to others. We can learn to love and appreciate our self and others simultaneously. When we are feeling confident we joyfully apply effort to accomplish our goals and nothing feels unattainable, even enlightenment.

During this workshop, learn how to develop authentic self-confidence through training in meditation and identifying with our limitless potential for change and development. The teachings given will be based on several verses from the ancient Buddhist poem, Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, by Indian meditator, Shantideva, which reveals the extraordinary confidence of someone who has gained control over their mind.

“I will conquer all obstacles,
And none shall conquer me.
Thus I, who will become a Conqueror,
Will practice with self-confidence.” –Shantideva

Chanted Meditations

Chanted meditations (pujas): The word puja is Sanskrit for offering. A Puja combines chanting and visualization with meditation.

Pujas are a special method for ensuring success in our meditation by purifying negativity, accumulating merit, and receiving blessings.

Why do chanted meditations?

People do pujas when they are stressed out, or feel like nothing is going their way. Or when there is something important that they want to go well. Or especially for daily peace of mind. People say, "Things just go better when I do Heart Jewel." Or Tara prayers, etc.

Everyone is welcome, and there is no charge.

Chanted meditations in Greeley are held on a weekly basis. Calendar of chanted meditations in Greeley

Heart Jewel

Mondays at 4pm

The core daily prayer practice of Kadampa Buddhists world-wide is called Heart Jewel. By reciting this prayer we can create the perfect conditions for successful meditation practice by purifying negativity, accumulating merit (good karma/positive mental energy), and receiving powerful blessings. Each session also includes silent time for contemplation and meditation.

That's all you really need to know. Just come and enjoy. It is very peaceful and helps with daily life in so many ways.

But if you want to know more... Technically, it is a Guru yoga of Je Tsongkhapa combined with the condensed sadhana of his Dharma Protector with short meditations on Lamrim and Mahamudra.

This puja includes two practices that come from the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri. The first is a special Guru yoga in which we visualize our Spiritual Guide as Je Tsongkhapa, who himself is a manifestation of Manjushri.

By relying upon this practice, we can purify negativity, accumulate merit, and receive blessings. In this way, we will naturally accomplish all the realizations of the stages of the path of Sutra and Tantra, and in particular we will attain a very special Dharma wisdom.

The second practice is a method for relying upon the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. Through this, we can overcome obstacles to our practice and create favourable conditions so that we can nurture and increase our Dharma realizations.

If we rely upon the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden sincerely, our faith in Je Tsongkhapa will naturally increase and we will easily gain experience of the pure Buddhadharma transmitted directly to Je Tsongkhapa by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri.

These two practices are the very essence of the New Kadampa Tradition of Mahayana Buddhism. If we practice them regularly and sincerely, we will reap a rich harvest of pure Dharma realizations, and eventually come to experience the supreme joy of full enlightenment.

An extensive explanation of this sadhana can be found in the book Heart Jewel, by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
