Advice from Atisha's Heart - Guided Meditation Retreat

Gen Kelsang Rinzin

Taught by Gen Kelsang Rinzin

7:00 pm Friday, January 5
10:30 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday 6
10:30 am to 1:00 pm, Sunday 7

Source of the advice

When Venerable Atisha came to Tibet he first went to Ngari, where he remained for two years giving many teachings to the disciples of Jangchub Ö.

After two years had passed he decided to return to India, and Jangchub Ö requested him to give one last teaching before he left.

Atisha replied that he had already given them all the advice they needed, but Jangchub Ö persisted in his request and so Atisha accepted and gave the following advice.

About the retreat

In this retreat, Gen Rinzin will explain and guide meditations on the verses of Atisha's Advice. The words of Atisha's advice are, one might say, a layman's guide to practicing the path to enlightenment in daily life. As such, it is full of pithy and profound advice, such as

Always keep a smiling face and a loving mind, and speak truthfully without malice.

This makes this retreat an excellent start for those looking for an introduction to Buddhist practice, as well as a practical reinforcement for more those with more experience.

Atisha's advice shows us how to begin the spiritual path to our own enlightenment, what things we should do with our environment to make it conducive our growth in peace and happiness, and how to keep going and attain the results of our practice. For example, he says,

If you practice with great devotion, results will arise immediately, without your having to wait for a long time.
